Does it seem the colonist caused the American Revolution or did the British government cause the American Revolution?

  1. The British government caused the Revolution completely by imposing the Acts on the colonists. England needed to pay off their debt from fighting the French Indian War and decided it best to have the colonists pay for it, seeing as the war benefitted them most. Also, England didn't want the colonists to move westward into the new land, America. Restricting a people like this was bound to cause rebellion. If it hadn't been for the British government's aggressive taxation and restriction of the colonists, the colonists would have little to no reason to break off from England.

  2. The Parliament House of Commons was the cause of the American Revolution. We have talked in class about the decision made by the House of Commons to tax the colonists in order to pay of the war debt of Great Britain. Without this decision to tax them they would not have revolted and thus there would have been no war.

  3. It seems to me that the British Government caused the American Revolution. The British Government caused the Revolution because they began taxing everything. The taxes made the colonists mad, and caused them to revolt. If the British Government didn't tax, or not tax as much, the colonists wouldn't have revolted. Without taxes, the colonists wouldn’t have revolted, which would mean there was no American Revolution.

  4. It seems that the British government causes the American Revolution. The British government forces their heavy debt from the French and Indian War onto the colonists in America by tax acts. This unfair taxing of the colonists causes them to rebel against the British government. When the government will not stop the unfair taxes, the colonists start the American Revolution.

  5. Its seems that the British government caused the American Revolution. After the French and Indian War Great Britain was in debt and they needed a source of income to pay it off. Great Britain decided that their source would be North America. The American colonists were taxed heavily to repay the debt. Some taxes included a tax on tea and on marriage licenses. The colonists had gotten outraged because of it all and decided that they had to do something about it. That is when the colonists agreed on a revolt against Great Britain, and it spiraled into the American Revolution.

  6. I believe that the British government caused the revolution. They imposed laws that were unfair to the colonists all because they needed to pay off their war debt, but they were too lazy to do it themselves. They also started taxing necessary goods like stamps, tea, and anything that was a common buy among the colonists. This angered the colonists, who eventually got tired of dealing with the British government and their ridiculous laws, in turn, starting the revolution that led to their freedom.

  7. It seems the British government caused the American Revolution, rather than the colonists. The British focused on taking away from everyone. They were determined by protesting, and passing series of taxes. By passing the Tea Act, Stamp Act, and Intolerable Act, colonists were not able to abide like they were accustomed to living. The colonists were not the cause of the American Revolution; the British government definitely stimulated the American Revolution.

  8. I believe that the British government caused the American Revolution. The government enforced several acts, including the Stamp Act and Tea Act, that made the colonists angry and unwilling to cope with the government anymore. The acts were unfair; they forced colonists to pay taxes on supplies that they had not paid tax on previously. This made the colonists revolt, in such ways as the Boston Tea Party, therefore causing the American Revolution.

  9. The British government caused the American Revolution. If they did not go into such deep debt then there would of been no way for America to start a revolution. Then the main reason for the revolution was the horrible taxes they were imposing on our country. The American Revolution would not have happened if it wasn't for the British government acting so foolishly.

  10. The British government caused the American Revolution by imposing taxes. They created the Intolerable Act, Tea Act, and Stamp Act. These acts caused debt and chaos. Since the British government enforced the taxes on the colonists, it led to a rebellion, which soon was the cause of the American Revolution.

  11. The British government caused the American Revolution by treating the American colonies more differently than how the colonies felt they should be treated. The British government also felt that the colonies should not receive all the rights of the Englishmen while the Americans believed they should.

  12. I believe that the British government was the cause of the American Revolution. The British government spent all of their money on a former war, so they needed to earn money to pay their debts. The British chose to tax the colonist, and the colonist rebelled. When the colonist came to America, they still drank their tea as if they were in Britain, so the British government decided to tax the colonist's tea. When their tea was taxed, the colonist revolted with the Boston Tea Party, which was when the colonist dressed up as Native Americans and boarded a ship full of the taxed tea and dumped all of the tea into the Boston Harbor.

  13. I don't exatly think it was any set person's fault that the American Revolution came to be. Both parties were at least a little at fault for the American Revolution. The colonists knew they would have to face the opposition of Britain when they came to the new land, and their rebelling caused tension in their homeland. The British government is just as guilty, if not more, for the American Revolution. The British government put pressure on the colonists by making new taxes. Both sides of the war are at fault and both contributed to its cause.

  14. I think the British government antagonized the Revolutionary War, but the colonist set it into motion. The British started the War by taxing all of the Americans exports and imports. The British should have listened to the House of Lords and payed off the dept as a country. If the British had maintained unity with the Americans the War might not have ever come about. On the other hand, the Americans could have negotiated a compromise or a payment plan that could have saved the colonies from War. in turn the colonies retaliated and the British fired back. The War had started.

  15. Both parties were equally responsible for the American Revolution, but one could put most of the blame on the British government for so heavily taxing the colonists. But, the colonists did everything within their ability to unify the thirteen colonies to create a single, hostile force by using everything from intimidation to propaganda (for instance, South Carolina was willing to bear the taxes until the "Boston Massacre", which had been overly dramatized in order to draw more recruits for the Continental Army). To most Americans, we place the blame on England for the war simply because we are biased, but there are many facts that point the finger at the British government.

  16. The British government caused the American Revolution by implementing taxes on the American colonists.
After the French-Indian War and the Battle of Quebec, the British government was full of debt to different countries, and the Parliament decided to charge taxes for basic needs to the American colonists. The tea taxes were taxes imposed to tea, a very English custom, and the American settlers were obliged to pay for getting most of their properties stamped by the British government.
American settlers were basically paying to have an army that they didn't need, to a country they didn't want to be a part of. This is when the American colonists decided to start a revolution for freedom, and protest against England, their mother country.

  17. The British government started the American Revolution by taxing the colonist excessively. The British were heavily in debt from the French and Indian War and had no way to pay for the war. Parliament decided to tax the colonies instead of themselves for political reasons. The Tea Act, the Stamp Act, and the Intolerable Acts are some of the heinous taxes imposed on the American colonists. If the British had only left some of the taxes to themselves or taxed the British people instead of American colonists the war never would've come about. This war was a rebellion against England the the King for American freedom and if England never would've unleashed these taxes then there would be no war.

  18. The British were the ones who started the American Revolution. The British needed to pay off their war debts, so they enforced unfair taxes on the Colonists. The colonists realized that the British were treating them unfairly and began to boycott British goods. Eventually this lead to violence. If the British had not began to tax the colonists so harshly, the American Revolution would not have happened.

  19. The British government was the one that caused the American Revolution. The British were interested in ruling America and could not pay their war debt. As a result they began to outrageously tax the colonist on tea, stamps, and other goods. The colonist would not stand for this, so the American Revolution began. If the British would have paid their debt off as a country like the House of Lords said, the Colonist may have never revolted.

  20. The British government caused the American Revolution. The British government antagonized the colonists by creating a series of taxes for the colonists to pay. These taxes would pay off the debt for the French and Indian War. The British government also kept its soldiers in the colonies after the war. This upset the colonists because the soldiers were no longer needed. The colonists had no other choice but to go to war with the British people. The British government certainly caused the American Revolution to occur.

  21. The British government caused the American Revolution. The British government placed taxes for everyday items on the colonists that seemed ridiculous. The British also had a group of soldiers stay in America after the French and Indian War. Because the army was staying there the colonists felt threatened by them, and the felt like the Brits were invading there homeland. It seems as so the British government caused the American Revolution through their ridiculous acts and their army regiment.

  22. To me, it seems the British government caused the American Revolution. The British government was in heavy debt due to the French and Indian War. The British Parliament was compelled to start taxing their people in order to pay off this debt. The problem was, it would have probably been a mistake to tax their own people, because they are the ones who vote and decide the Parliament. So, the British taxed the Americans and passed Acts such as the Tea Act, the Stamp Act, etc. As a result, the Americans rebelled and formed a revolution refusing to pay said taxes. All of these conflicts rebound back to when the British were in heavy debt, which is why the British government caused the American Revolution.

  23. The British government caused the American Revolution. The British felt that the colonies were created to be used in the way to best help themselves. This means that they didn't think the colonists should have the rights that they wanted. The government then passed the taxes on the colonists. As anyone would feel, this was not fair. The colonies grew tired of these Acts that were being passed, so they decided that they would fight back. The cause of the American Revolution was the British government.

  24. The British government was the one that started the American Revolution. The Parliament House of Commons wanted to tax the colonist, or Americans, for them to pay the war debt from the earlier battles. The taxes were called Acts, and these acts consisted of The Stamp Act, The Tea Act, and The Intolerable Act. The Parliament House of Lords did not seem that was fair to the colonist, but The Parliament House of Commons did not fallow their directions. Therefore, they made the colonist fell cheated and used. However, this situation started the American Revolution.

  25. The British government caused the American Revolution. Because of war debt, they placed many outrageous taxes on everyday items, like tea and stamps, for the colonists. The government thought it would be okay to do so because the colonists' opinions did not matter as they would not be able to vote people into the House of Commons or out. To make matters worse, the British left a group of Red Coats in New England after the French and Indian War, causing the colonists to feel threatened. King George appeared to forget about the colonists and only cared about the Englishmen back home. In the end, the British government provoked the colonists until everything became intolerable, thus making the government the cause of the Revolution.

  26. It seems that the British government caused the American Revolution. The British Government chose to provoke war with the French. After winning the war they went in dept, it was the British Government's decision to tax American colonist's tea, stamps, and marriage licenses. When the British won the war they had no jobs for the soldiers in England. Due to the lack of jobs it forced these soldiers to stay in America. This left the colonist uneasy. The taxes and the tense air between the colonists and the soldiers caused the American Revolution.

  27. It seems the British government caused the American Revolution. Their taxation of the colonists on common things like tea and stamps led them to rebel. The Boston Tea Party, for example, was a protest against the Tea Act in which the colonists dressed up as Indians and dumped tea from a British ship into the harbor. The British taxed American colonists without them actually even being represented in their government. The colonists weren't the ones voting for who would have a place in the government so the British didn't have any problems with letting them pay the ridiculously large taxes they needed to pay off their debt. These taxes called "acts", put upon the colonists by the British government were the main reason for the American Revolution.

  28. The British government caused the American Revolution in my opinion. The British put taxes on the American colonist to pay off the dept of the French Indian War. The British taxed the colonist with the Tea Act ,but then the American colonist decided not to drink tea. The British government also tried the Stamp Act on the colonist. The Stamp Act made it to where the colonist had to put a stamp on every formal document. The American colonist rebelled against the Stamp Act. The British government got fed up with the rebellion of the American colonist and started the Intolerable Act ,which put taxes on goods and most everything brought to America.

  29. The British government caused the American Revolution by declaring "Acts" against the colonist. After the war was over the British Parliament or more specifically the House of Commons decided to make the colonist pay all of the war debt since Parliament agreed that the war most benefitted the American colonist. So the British issued a series of taxes to pay for the war. While the "Acts" were being served by the British soldiers, that were left posted in America, the colonist got angrier and angrier until the colonist couldn't take the British anymore so the colonist declared war on the British causing the American Revolution.
The British government also provoked the revolution by leaving soldiers posted in the thirteen colonies
